living and learning

 I started watching this anime after being recommended it by my younger brother and liked it more than I honestly thought I would, between this show and the other one I've watched I've really fallen in love the Gyaru sub-culture and the ideology behind it. Mostly I love the concept of loudly being ones self and dressing for yourself despite what others think and taking up space and creating presence through clothes. Interestingly enough I feel like the cosplay tips they give have improved my own makeup and sewing skills. I also love the main character’s hair!

 こうこうのとき，I participated in a local program where I spent two weeks with kids from 3 different countries’ sister cities to my city, including a delegation from Nagaoka. I learned so much from them about their city and would love to visit someday!  Nagaoka is in Niigata Prefecture and is one of the bigger cities in the prefecture. The prefecture is known to have beautiful ski resorts and really good seafood! In Nagaoka there is a firework festival in early August that is in remembrance of the destruction they faced in WWII after being bombed by the USA, and symbolizes recovery and peace. As apart of another program run by the Sister City organization, Fort Worth students go for the festival and learn a dance to preform in part of the Festival with a group of students that come to the United States.

  This weekend I watched part of the first season of the Netflix show, "Badly in Love.” the premise of the snow is a group of people who were delinquents in their youth otherwise calledャンキー and they work together for two weeks to put together an event for a local children's hangout spot while also getting to know one another. While much of the Japanese they use is highly informal it was interesting to see how much I could understand, and the different Japanese subcultures many of them are apart of. As apart of the show, they write letters to one another and it has been interesting to try to read different handwriting. My favorite on the show is Kiichan, I think she is so pretty.
